На 26.08.2002 г. в автомобилна катастрофа, загина нашият колега, съмишленик и приятел Димитър Киров.
Димитър Георгиев Киров е основател и член на Управителния съвет на "Интернет общество - България", член на Съвета за информационни технологии при Президента на Република България, активен участник в национални и международни конференции по проблемите на Интернет технологиите у нас и по света.
Димитър Киров се занимаваше с въпросите на навлизането на Интернет и информационните технологии в образованието, влиянието им върху подрастващите, както и с възможностите за осигуряване правото на достъп до информация и достъп до свободно изказване на мнения в Глобалната мрежа.
Неговата трагична кончина е огромна загуба за семейството му, за цялата Интернет общност, за всички негови приятели и познати.
Димитър Киров беше женен, с две деца.
"Интернет общество - България" и Portal.bg поднасят своите съболезнования на семейството - Албена, Георги и Крум и на близките му.

This is really a bit unusual, because Poland lost one of its leaders in the
Internet Society in a similar manner a few years back. It is my understanding that they used their tragedy to increase their resolve to form ISOC-Polska and to work even harder toward their goals.

Светът стана по-малко хубав и значително по-тъжен без Митко Киров.
Не искам да повярвам, че това се е случило.
С него говорихме само няколко часа преди катастрофата за интеревюто, което даде за "Дума" (излязло на 28.08.2002 г.).
Митко Киров беше един от основните двигатели на "Интернет обществото" особено в частта му за работата с образованието и за свободата на словото в Мрежата.
Откакто научих за трагичния инцидент не спирам да гледам снимката му и да си мисля за хилядите неща, които не можахме да направим.
Посрещнах жена му Албена на летището заедно с по-големия им син Георги и се чувствах ужасно, че не съм могъл да предотвратя тази нелепа смърт. Още повече, че аз самият съм бил в положението да загубя баща си на 7-годишна възраст и знам какво е на мой гръб.
И семейството му, и приятелите му, и аз, и другият Митко - Ганчев - от УС на "Интернет общество" осиротяхме.
Светът стана по-малко хубав и значително по-тъжен без Митко Киров.
Цял ден получаваме съболезнователни писма от наши общи колеги от цял свят - от бащата на Интернет Винт Сърф до Естер Дайсън... Всички пишат, но за съжаление няма как да върнем времето назад и само ни остава да си спомняме за него като за изключителен приятел и човек. Истински човек и гражданин.
