През декември за Интернет общество се говореше на световния форум за информационно общество WSIS в Женева. Ето откъси от публикациите в "International Herald Tribune" и "New York Times":

Veni Markovski, head of the Bulgarian president's information technology advisory council and head of the local branch of the Internet Society, said he had approached the UNDP to get help for his country and was motivated to do so because he was shocked by the outcome of several government contracts involving Microsoft products.
In the first case, the government spent $13.6 million on Microsoft's Windows XP products in 2002. He claimed that it was later discovered that the government paid twice the list price for the software, which was purchased through a Microsoft retailer.
A Microsoft spokeswoman and another member of the Bulgarian delegation at the UN talks, Roman Trifonov, denied that the government had overpaid for the software,*
Another contract, involving a contract for an e-government portal on the Internet, which would allow citizens to access government services online, required citizens to use Windows XP or Windows 2000 and to use Internet Explorer as their browser, Markovski said.
Trifonov, an adviser to the minister of state administration, countered that any computer user with certain system tools could access the portal.**
A third contract, for $1.5 million, was for 35,000 software licenses for schools, but Markovski maintains that there are no more than 850 computers in schools that could run the software.
A Microsoft spokeswoman said the contract was jointly issued by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and that it covers up to 15,000 computers for public schools, with the rest being used by universities and the Academy of Science. ***
"I am convinced that the end result of the influence that Microsoft has on the government here is that the end user, the citizen, doesn't have a choice and the government doesn't have a choice," Markovski said.

* Вени Марковски е избран за член на борда на Computer professionals for social responsibilities.
* Парламентарната комисия по транспорт и телекомуникации започна разглеждането на проектозакона за далекосъобщенията, в който има редица конструктивни и положителни за Интернет предложения на "Интернет общество".

Февруари
Интернет общество бе акредитирано като участник в Световната среща на върха през декември 2003 г. в Женева (www.wsis.org), а председателят на УС бе избран за член на Бюрото за гражданско общество към WSIS.

Януари
Интернет общество стана съорганизатор на българското издание на международните анти-награди Големия брат, заедно с Глобалната инициатива за политика в Интернет, Програма "Достъп до Информация", Асоциацията за развитие на информационните технологии.

Януари
Избраният за Президент Георги Първанов възложи на УС на Интернет обществото да предложи състава на Съвета за информационни технологии към Президента на Републиката. Повече информация има в портал.бг.

Ноември
На проведените избори за Президент на Република България, след два тура, спечели един от членовете на "Интернет общество" - Георги Първанов.

Ноември
Интернет общество - България участва в семинара на Фондацията за реформа на местното самоуправление "Работа в мрежа за европейска интеграция", проведен от ФРМС в гр. Пловдив с презентация на тема "Интернет-обществото в полза на европейската интеграция".

Септември
Членът на УС Димитър Киров участва в конференцията на ICANN в Монтевидео.
Народното събрание и "Интернет общество" с помощта на Американската асоциация на юристите (ABA-CEELI) организират кръгла маса, посветена на промените в Наказателния кодекс и по-точно т.нар. компютърни престъпления.

Юли
След намеса на Интернет общество, Народното събрание реши занапред да обявява в търговете за закупуване на техника, че ще даде равни възмножности на всички операционни системи, а не както досега - само на Windows. По този начин Linuх може да влезе в държавната администрация!

Май
Участие в конференцията "Правата на детето и информационното общество", организирана от Държавната агенция за закрила на детето. На фона на поголовните призиви от правни и държавни авторитети (Нели Огнянов, Институт за правно развитие) за нуждата от регулиране (разбирай "цензуриране") на съдържанието на Интернет Интернет общество отстоява принципите, че съдържанието на мрежата може да бъде обект на регулации само тогава, когато се нарушават законите , че филтрирането на съдържането е изцяло в компетенцията на родителите или на онези органи, които предоставят Интернет достъп в училища и други детски заведения, а не е политика на държавата. Като основен метод за борба с негативното въздействие на мрежата върху младите ISOC - България посочва създаването на качествени, интересни, полезни и привличащи вниманието ресурси на български език.

Март
ISOC-България е поканен за единствената експертна организация, която да подпомогне Парламента при изменението и допълнението на Закона за далекосъобщенията. И управляващите ОДС, и опозиционните БСП и Евролевица са единодушни в пленарна зала, че текстовете от закона, които са консултирани с нас, са добри.
С голям успех премина Втората Интернет фиеста, с участието на десетки фирми, както и на специални гости от чужбина. Повече информация www.isoc.bg/fiesta/

ISOC-България протестира срещу лицензирането на Интернет доставчиците, предлагано от правителство в Закона за Пощите. Промените в заакона бяха направени без да засегнат Интернет.

ISOC-България предложи цените на телефонните разговори да не бъдат повишавани, но предложението беше отхвърлено.

ISOC-Bulgaria has been asked to proivde specialists to discover recent hackers' activities in Sofia. Following the advises of ISOC members, about a dozen hackers have been traced and located by the ISP and the police. A very unusual activity, we have to add, but we have to protect the rights of ALL internet users.

Published a picture from Reuters showing the just-opened and first Internet Cafe in Bulgaria, sponsored by the Internet Society - Bulgaria.

(March 6) IDG Computerworld .
"Internet Society - Bulgaria" has been founded. The IDG newspaper gives basic information about the ISOC chapter and its primary ideas.

(March 7) Cash (a Ringie Switzerland newspaper.
"Connect to the Internet from... the cafe".The article gives some information about the Internet Society, terms for membership and the idea about the Internet Cafe.
